So i have been asked questions by multiple students regarding we are starting to read now – how can we prepare , what to read , what is the best schedule , how to read.
My mantras and tips for this preparation are very simple :
- Sincerity
Whether you are working somewhere in bond / SR ship / Residency – what people think is that we can give only 3 hours or give only 6 hours how can I finish the course . But the key is you give that 3 hours or 6 hours – it should be dedicated to reading . No distractions , no disturbances , only you and your subject and chapters.
Sharing my personal experience – when i did my Fellowship in Surgical Gastroenterology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital , New Delhi post my SR Ship when i was preparing for NEET SS – initially it was very frustrating – trying to manage time and studying but my then Consultant – Dr. Samrat Ray – told me that i have taken this choice of working with studying so i cant complain and not get frustrated . Instead I should go with the flow – so i changed my attitude and started studying in the time which i got with full sincerity without thinking about it when i was working – which helped me concentrate when i studied and it helped me not get frustrated and prepare in a better way.
- Smart Studying
The goal should not be just to read page by page but to read that page to page smartly . So when we read Bailey & Love 28th Edition , Sabiston 21st Edition – we should read in the following manner
– First Reading – Superficial reading with marking the important paragraphs , tables , charts
– Second Reading – Deep reading from those important aspects and making notes or adding them to already available notes .
– Solve MCQ’s from our NEET SS Plans or any – followed by
– Third Reading – Just go through the notes
– Followed by 3 revisions minimum.
- Schedule Planning
Important aspect of the whole preparation is planning – we tend to either pack our schedule to complete the course fast or we give ourselves a very less target to achieve a sense of Pseudo-satisfaction of reading and finishing the target .
From my personal experience – I can suggest – Give short targets for 1 session to start ( 3 – 4 hours ) followed by Half day – ( 2 sessions ) to Whole day target . Once you get a hang of your speed and confidence . Give yourself target of 1 week at a time for 1 month. Dont make more than 1 month target . Divide roughly and make schedule accordingly depending on your speed and reading confidence. Alot a time of minimum 1 hour per day for solving MCQ’s not more not less.
Now as we consider 4 months from now for expecting NEET SS to be in June – you can keep 3 months for reading – 1 month for revision. How to plan this 3 months has to be decided by you as per your speed and previous reading , and plan as per the example i mentioned earlier.
Coming to topic wise schedule – you can follow our AIM NEET SS 2023 Schedule not for the time planning but for the topic wise division and how you can read .
- Books what to read
So my advice is
– Bailey & Love 28th Edition – Read from first page to last page – in a way I already mentioned above
– Sabiston 21st Edition – You can check my video about How to Read Sabiston ?
I hope this helps you to plan your studies accordingly . I can tell you plan like this or that but at the end its your personal speed and comfort which will give you best results .
